Hi all!

Following on from here: http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/l ... nture.html

I was wondering if I got one of these: http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/ha ... forest.php which size would I need for a Crestie?

(I'm no where near ready to buy one yet) but If I bought one from here with regards to age http://www.lillyexotics.co.uk/available.php would they be OK in that set up?

Thanks for any help

Well the rainforest kit is pretty much what you need especially if you want a light on top as well. You might be cheaper getting it all seperate though, but it's up to you.

If the Crestie you get is a youngsterthen they can live in a large faunarium (which you can get off Ebay for around £8) until they are 8 to 10 months old, depending how fast they grow. If you house a Crestie in a viv which is too large when young they may struggle to find food.

For a Crestie of 8 to 10 months plus a 45x45x65cm terarrium is ideal and you could actually house a pair in one that size if you wanted.

Good morning all :-D

Being in the same situation as Crusty, a new owner to be, I keep hearing people say that I/we could possibly get 2 Cresties to go in the size tank - the 45 x 45 x 60, which is what I have. What happens when they get older though if they either turn out to be 2 males who may be aggressive towards each other, or a male & a female who gets harassed around breading time?? Do I have to get another set up to house 1 of the Cresties?? Would I be best just getting the 1?? :?

Definately better off just getting one to begin with. You would have to seperate if they both turned out to be males as pretty much, without doubt they would start fighting. Some people or shops might tell you that a pair of males they have get on ok but they will always start fighting at some point.

If you had a male and female pair, it is advisable to seperate the male in breeding season as he will constantly pester the female and this can be very stressful for her.

So basically if you want two then you would need to seperate them at some point unless you had two females but then they don't always get on with each other.

I only want one at the moment :-D

So if I were to buy a Gecko from lilly exotics I'd have to buy a faunarium to house it until it grows older?

That would be best, faunariums look quite small compared the terarriums but it will do a young crestie absolutely fine until he/she grows up a bit.

So should I buy just the faunarium now then get the bigger one later? I'd prefer to just get the bigger one but I'm guessing that's not possible if I get a young Gecko?

Thanks for the help so far! :-D

No worries :)

If it was me I would just get the faunarium now and then a bigger one later on. If you want to get a big enclosure straight away then you could get an adult Crestie? There's plenty around. www.preloved.co.uk and www.reptileclassifieds.co.uk have a few

Nah I'd rather get a baby one from that site, there's something about bringing it up from the start

I'll get the faunarium for now then, besides im sure it will always come in handy for keeping the gecko whilst cleaning etc.

OK so how would I go about setting it up? I'd prefer being able to buy heat pads etc that can be used in the bigger tank when ready

Thanks

Yeah, get the size heat pad that you will need for the larger viv and a thermostat. You can place the faunarium on top of the heat mat and have the temp probe from the thermostat inside at the bottom.

Substrate would be kitchen towel for a youngster as there is no risk of them eating any of the substrate and getting impacted., You need a fake plant and a couple of branches/sticks for climbing on. You can feed CGD from a milk bottle lid or similar and mist twice a day for youngster. Once in the morning and again in the evening so when they come out from hiding they can drink the droplets.
