I caught this guy in California when I visited some friends with my family for the fourth of July. He was the only one I kept out of the three or four I caught. It's a Western Blue Bellied Fence Lizard, aka Blue Swifts. They are called swifts because they are pretty darn fast. He's basking on a rock. I jumped out of the golf cart and chased him to this crevice. After about twenty minutes I finally got him and he is preeeeety. Belly shot. His back. Hes got some turquoise colored scales and is very nice looking in person. Basking with Larry.

I have those guys all over my backyard! I can't go walking across my backyard with out having one dart under my foot. My dad can only ever grab them in the mornings when they are cold. Aren't they beautiful though?!

Yeah the colors are really pretty. I can't believe how many there can be in one place, those lizards really are everywhere in california.

Wildlife for reptiles and amphibians was good in florida, you see in a lake beside your house aligators, tree frogs on the plants around your house, and then these little tiny fast lizards running back and forth across the drive-way lol.

I've always wanted to visit there, it would be nice to catch a caiman. Not to keep of course haha, just for the experience.

Great looking lizzard, I agree with Perry, it's a shame we don't have lizzards everywhere in the UK. The ones we do have are very heavily protected! Lol

I don't know what I would do with myself if there wasn't anything to catch. What kind of stuff is protected over there?

We have five native reptiles, three snakes and two lizzards.
The snakes are grass snakes (the most common, I'm not sure if these are protected if I'm honest) adders (our only venomous snake, although its very weak, said to be like a bad bee sting. These are only found in the south of England, typically around Dorset and the heath lands there. They are protected, even disturbing them is supposedly an offence) and smooth snakes (which are the rarest here, insectivores, they are very heavily protected indeed, found in the same kind of terrain as adders, but in far fewer numbers).
We have common and sand lizzards, both of which are supposedly found throughout the south of England, but really only on moor and heathland. They aren't rare as such, but the areas they inhabit are quite small so their numbers aren't great and as such both have the same kind of protection as adders.
We also get slow worms, which don't have any protection because they'e fairly common throughout the UK, I found one a few weeks ago on the border to Scotland.
