My leopard geckos just had their first two eggs of this season :)

The breeding season is normally said to be from February to September but my guys have always started earlier and finished earlier. I let them do their thing, they live together all the time so whenever they are ready they can go for it  !

Had a bit of a mad dash as I didn't have any incubation boxes with vermiculite set up and the incubator was still packed away (serves me right, I should have the stuff set up and waiting for them). But now I have two little eggs settled in the incubator waiting to turn into baby leos!

Hope everything goes OK. She'd laid the eggs in her moist hide so I'm hoping they didn't get too much moisture on them, otherwise they might start to go mouldy. I'll just have to keep an eye on them I guess.

I love baby geckos :-D

They normally take about 50 days to hatch, can be sooner or later than that though. Just like with human babies I guess. My last lot of hatchlings all hatched around the 45 day mark so maybe the same will happen with these guys.

I need to keep an eye on them though because like I said last night, I was worried they'd got moisture on them and today one egg has got a bit of darker colouration on it's side. I really hope it's not mould. If it is they won't survive :(

She has a laying box, she's just being awkward by laying in her moist hide!

I hope they don't go mouldy :(

45 days is pretty quick. Is it true that you can incubate Leos at different temps to determine the sex?

yeah that is true :P. Amy, what tempreture is your leo vivarium at? because i think mine aint breeding because the tempretures aint right, therefor they aint getting stimulated into breeding because in the wild they usually lay when the time is right, when the temps are correct for the eggs to hatch. Also, what incubator do you use, did you make it or did you buy one? about a year ago i was looking into getting the juragon pro incubator, but people said the humidity on it was way off and they're eggs were dieing, so i didnt bother buying one at all, and the simple fact that my geckos aint given me eggs lol. I need to get a new light from homebase, its like a spotlight type bulb and it heats up there vivarium quite nicely. I realllly want my geckos to breed >.< idk whats wrong with them...ive had eggs before, which they ate...and ive never seen any since. that was like 2 years ago lol....some people say they try copy the temp drops as it would do it the wild, by like...lowering the tempreture in the winter, and highering it in the summer which stimulates breeding as they breed in the summer, and rest in the winter, do you do anything like that? thanks :D

With the temperature drops I do sort of simulate the natural temps. I use a 50w heat bulb (infa red) in the summer and a 75w in winter, which on average makes their temps drop by about 5°F in winter (they are in quite a bit set up and the room they're in gets pretty cold in winter). Their summer daytime temps are about 85°F, winter about 80°F.

The incubator I use is a really old Hovabator one for chicken eggs. I did have one that I made myself but it was really hit and miss whether any of the eggs hatched. The chicken egg one I have seems to work brilliantly. I obviously took the turning shelf out of it, then I just put the eggs inside a plastic tub with some moist vermiculite and sit that on the bottom of the incubator. The only problem with it is that there's no humidty reader actually inside the incubator so I have to stick one of the Exo-terra hydrometers to the top of the plastic tubs.

The temp I'm keeping the incubator at this time is around 29°C so that's incubating for females. Just think I'll have a better chance of selling/giving them away if they are female. My last lot were all male (incubated for a mix) so I thought i'd try something different this time.

oh right i see, my leo tank is getting quite cold, last winter it was fine, but this winter they tanks now at about 73 ish, i need to get a light :S. its colder in there tank than it is the cresties cause the fan blows towards me, hits the wall and goes down, where the leo vivarium is.

What heat source do you use? A heat mat or a bulb? And what sort of set up are they in?

Why is the heat mat stuck on the ceiling? Seems a bit weird, they absorb heat through their stomachs for digestion. I wouldn't have thought a heat mat provides enough heat to heat the set up if it's coming from above.

I use a heat bulb rather than a mat because with a mat the temps still weren't hot enough, works quite well because the bulb also heats the sand so it's warn to the touch, just like a heat mat would.
