Oh no!

My local reptile shop have just taken delivery of 3 female Pygmy Chameleons and are getting a male on Friday. I've been interested in these cute little guys for quite a while now and knew I'd be hooked as soon as I saw them in the flesh. The shop owner said he'd sell me a pair, with an their Exo set-up and everything in it (including the proper leaf litter etc) for £90 or a trio for £110.

I sooooo want them. But I can't afford them. I've already bought an unexpected Frillie and a new Exo for Zilla this month. I'm so gutted. :( They really are adorable. I even had another irresponsible thought  . I figured that's what credit cards are for, right?! But Marc has put his foot down and won't let me buy them  .

So, it's not so bad, I just avoid the pet shop till they've been sold...not quite so easy. I offered to help out there when I'm not at uni (voluntary basis) to learn about all the rare and specialised reps they have. So I start tomorrow. I'm going to want them even more after looking after them for a couple of days!

People who open amazing reptile centres down the road from you, where you then spend all your money, so that when they then get some more equally cool reptiles in, you can't afford them, should be banned!!! ;)

Could you not leave a deposit and pay the balance after pay day? Or if you are going help out voluntarily then he might just hold on for them till you can afford them or even give you a bigger discount?

It's pretty cool that you are going to be working with loads of reps though!

lol £110 for a trio of chameleons sounds rather cheap! maybe its the speces which is why they are kinda cheap? cause ive seen hatchlings going for like £150 on RFUK, but they were panther chameleons though...anyways good luck amy, hopefully you'll be able to get them :D. What you got to remember though, it aint just the cost of the animal...its the cost when its ill (if it gets ill), and increasing your population of reptiles is increasing the chances of one being ill, its the same way my mum and dad allways said with my cats...we had 2 for many years, nothing bad happened, but when we started keeping more, and ended up with 7, it was just a matter of time before bad things started to happen...and they did :/...so just think of the long term amy, no matter how much you want them :D

Yeah the species is cheap anyway Perry, they are only like 1-3 inches long!

You absolutely need to factor all those things in when thinking about buying a new pet. There's no way I'd buy a pet if I thought I couldn't afford to look after it (including some very expensive vet bills). It's just irresponsible to buy anything if you don't have the finances to cope with whatever it throws at you. But good advice! :)

I've made a decision and been in to pay for them today. I have decided to only buy a pair in a 12x12x12 Exo Terra cube, which meets the requirements for the little dudes. I'm going to pick them up on Tuesday because the owner needs to order my Exo and stuff so I'll soon be the proud owner of a male and female pygmeleon!

I also think I'd better explain my decision to buy only two, when I was thinking about four. Well...I was working last night and a late delivery came. It contained some young cresties, some baby snakes and a couple of leopard tortoises. I was asked to unload the cresties and get them set up. When doing this I came across none other than....

...wait for it...

...A DALMATION FEMALE! So obviously then, plans changed and I decided to downsize on the chameleons to make sure I had the cash for the dal when she's ready to go (Carl - the owner - likes to quarantine the animals for a week or so to make sure they are healthy and eating well before they are sold). So I'm also going to be the owner of a female crestie at last. A dalmation too, my favourite morph :-D . Finally Zilla will get his friend. Although still not for a long time because she's still younger than he is and considerably smaller. I need to fatten her up first and wait out mating season, don't want him trying any funny business just yet!

I seem to have acquired A LOT of reptiles very recently, but that's me done now :) I am very happy, I have two new species that I've wanted for a long time (the frille and the pygmy chams) and I also have a little girl to eventually keep Zilla company. No more reptiles for me!

lol very nice amy :D, do you plan to breed the chameleons? and im surpised you aint thinking of another frillie :P to breed them would be ace!

A reptile i would love would be a live bearer...it must be so cool to have a gecko..wake up one morning to find lots of lil guys running around, that you never expected! there is in fact a leachie gecko that does that..its called trachyactydus or something like that lol but they are extremely rare and a guy i spoke to said breeders will not sell these to just anyone.

I have a huge wardrobe in my room, that takes up half my room almost lol...AND I WANT IT GONE! if it was gone i could have 1 long huge table along it, stuck to the wall, supported underneath...and i could fit like 4-5 exo terra medium jungles on it...ahh i'd love it! i would expand on keeping leachies cause i just love them! there size and ability to scream and bark is unique! i was watching on youtube of a gecko, it sounds like a dog...seriously lol should check it out!

Haha, I will do. Yeah I think it'd be cool to wake up to loads of babies one day!

I'll see what happens with breeding the chameleons, the babies hatch at about half the size of a thumb nail, so they are pretty tiny, don't know if I'll be very good at breeding them, but I'll see what happens, if eggs appear I'll give it a go.

As for a girlfriend for Mushu, maybe one day. Definately not till he's fully grown and I know for sure he's a boy. Plus then I'd need even more space for him so I think that'll maybe be a few years down the line. It'd be nice to have everything paired up, but I also don't want to turn into the equivalent of the crazy cat lady from the simpsons. Although walking down the street and throwing geckos at people that get too close, whilst mumbling to myself about supplementation, sounds like a pretty interesting life to me ;) .

Sorry amy, but we have currently stolen that job lol (18 cats!!!!!!). Yeah i mean breeding must be good fun...just got to find places for the babys to go thats all...but im sure as your good friends with the owner of that pet store, he would take some in here and there for you to display in his shop window :). As for the frillie, it would be nice to breed them, cause then i get to see pics of the eggs, them hatching, and hatchling size! lol
